Femme Fatale Friday: Junglepussy, Lord Narf, and Cupcakke

Last night I went to the Red Bull Sound Select concert featuring Lord Narf, Junglepussy, and Cupcakke. I had to work and I honestly didn’t think I was going to  be able to go. But fortunately, there wasn’t much going on so my boss let me get off a little early.  I literally had to go all the way home to change and then come back. I thought that the venue would be full and nobody would let me in. Thankfully, there was still room.

When I walked up the hill form the parking garage, two women were handing out mini cupcakes. It was kind of sketchy to me. I thought they were going to ask me for money or that the cupcakes were poisoned. Then, they said they were with the event. I felt relieved and ecstatic that I was able to get a free cupcake. I noticed the flower on top and asked if it was from CamiCakes. The girls were shocked that I knew where the cupcakes were from. The pink box and the flower gave it away. I love CamiCakes. And then I realized that they were giving out cupcakes because of Cupcakke! Isn’t that great marketing? Both for Cupcakke and CamiCakes. So the night was already starting off right!

When I go to pay my ten dollars to get in, they tell me that I have to sign up and RSVP. With RSVP, I only have to pay three dollars to get in. I thought that wasn’t going to be an option since I got there when the show was supposed to be starting. So naturally, I thought they would still charge me ten when I went to pay. Nope! They only took 3 dollars! I paid three dollars to see 3 boss ass female rappers perform and I got a free cupcake! I knew the night was about to be amazing!

The DJ was jamming and playing songs that I could dance to. As soon as I got past security, I went straight to the stage. There was still some space to get a good spot and I didn’t have to wait long for the show to start.

Lord Narf was up first. Even though I didn’t come to see her, I left a fan. She had this song called ‘Leave Yo Azz’. I went back and listened to some of her songs and she sounds different when she’s recorded. As in she seems super calm. But when she’s live, she’s really live. Narf had so much energy on the stage and she was literally running around and running in place. I know she got a work out. But it was fun and I would prefer to see someone with energy than someone who is super calm because that’s boring.

Next up was Junglepussy!! I love her for her songs ‘Bling Bling’ and ‘F*ck Texting’.  She lit up the stage with her sexy dances and glittery red dress. JP brought the right amount of watch me werk attitude to bring her songs to life.  And I needed that because her songs bring the ratchet queen out of me. Her lyrics hit the core and she is unapologetic in letting guys know that she loves herself and wants a guy that’s actually worthy of her love.  I listen to her when I need to be reminded that I don’t have to settle for less.

Cupcakke closed the show. Her songs are extremely raunchy and I love it. She promotes sex positivity and expresses women owning their sexuality. She even has a song that states that she stands with the LGBT community. Cupcakke has a song called ‘Deepthroat’ that is literally about sucking dick and when I first heard one of her songs I thought there was no way she could be serious. As I listened to more of her music, I embraced it because it’s not like this is the first time that music has been explicit. Counting Cupcakke out because of censorship would be foolish because her songs are pretty catchy and entertaining and talking about sex shouldn’t  be considered taboo anyway.

This night was full of black girl magic and I was happy to see some boss female rappers perform.

If you know of any other dope female rappers, let me know in the comments below!
