On Weekends We Brunch: Marlow’s Tavern

Yesterday, I went to Marlow’s Tavern for brunch. I had come here a few years ago with some friends and I already knew that the food was good. I just didn’t know they served brunch. My friend wanted to come here as a part of her birthday weekend and I was excited because I LOVE brunch. And they had a brunch buffet! So I could eat all the cheese grits I want without having to scrape the bowl.

The buffet costs $20 and if you want bottomless mimosas it’s an additional $15, which isn’t that bad. Especially if you balling and money is nothing to you. What a nice life that must be.

So I’m gonna get the basic stuff out of the way. They had sausage, bacon, scrambled eggs, and biscuits at the start of the buffet line. Every breakfast buffet should have these staples. I would be surprised if these items were left out, but I would also be like who cares because I can make them at home. Although, I suppose other people might throw a fit if they just want a simple, basic breakfast.

Crab cake benedict was next and this actually tasted okay to me. I feel like I want to like crab cakes and I just don’t. I’ve had crab cake benedict at another restaurant and I hated the taste so much that I asked the waitress if I could choose another meal instead. I know. I know. I’m one of those people, but I would rather pay for something that I’m actually going to eat. Anyway, the crab cake benedict had a bit of a kick to it so if you like spicy food, you’ll probably be like ‘Where is the spice?  That girl is a liar.’ I promise it tastes good even if you don;t think it’s as spicy. One of my friends was allergic to the hollandaise sauce so they made him one without it.

The main attractions of MT’s buffet line were the maple fried chicken, peach french toast, and the white cheddar cheese grits. The maple fried chicken was good. I kept eating it, but it just reminded me of the chick-fil-a chicken nuggets. I expected it to be sweet because of the maple, but I also have an abnormal sweet tooth and things have to be deathly sweet for me to acknowledge the presence of sugar. Bottom line, the chicken was good.

The white cheddar grits were lit! They were a great consistency and I didn’t want to stop eating them. But eventually I had to because I knew they were making get full faster. But the white cheddar was a great shift from american cheese.

The star of the show was the peach french toast. Usually french toast is nothing without syrup, but these french toast were fine without it. They were super moist and sweet. Pairing this breakfast dish with peaches made sense since Georgia is known for the peach. All of my friends loved the peach french toast. We would all get 3 pieces at a time. I definitely recommend eating these…unless you’re allergic to peaches or something. But that’s okay because they had a lot of great options and they might make you some without the peaches. Just eat the french toast!

Marlow’s Tavern also had some lunch options including: chicken parmesan, mashed potatoes, and shrimp penne pasta. I did not get any mashed potatoes because I didn’t want any. The chicken parmesan tasted good, but I preferred the maple fried chicken. The shrimp penne pasta was banging! I love shrimp alfredo so I had to try it. It was creamy and cheesy and if I wasn’t close to being full I would have gotten more. They had spinach in their pasta and I thought ‘Great! I can be a little healthy.’ They had salads, but I wasn’t touching that. I came to munch on brunch, not eat salad.

For dessert they had cookies, funnel cake sticks, fruit, and mini creme brulee. I’m sure everybody has had the first three, so let me tell you about the mini creme brulee. They put them in mini little aluminum pie crust cups. Creme brulee is a custard based dessert that has sugar sprinkled on top and then heated so that it can harden. Only the top is hardened for a difference of textures. MT put them in little aluminum pie crust cups. The crust added another layer of texture and was a bonus. Sometimes I only eat pie for the crust so the combination was amazing. I probably ate about 4 of these all together. I got one with every plate.

A brunch isn’t complete without mimosas. I thought they were gonna be these small little wine glasses, but nope. They were like “You want mimosas!? I got yo mimosas!’ I could only drink two of them so I got the flavored ones. Honestly, the peach bellini mimosa tasted like a regular mimosa. I couldn’t really taste the peach flavor. The blue raspberry flavor made a green mimosa. It was very sour like gummy candy. I was entirely too full at this point so I only got through half of it.

I would definitely recommend coming here for Sunday brunch!
