Last night, I saw Tyler, the Creator. This was one of the biggest concerts I have ever gone to. The venues I usually go to are smaller and more intimate. There was also a very different crowd. I expected people to stay in their space, everybody had their own agenda. They were doing mosh pits and crowd surfing. I kept getting swept away and pulled in different directions. At first it was scary, but then it became fun because everybody was just caught up in the music. Unfortunately, it was like being in the ocean and I can’t swim. I almost lost the merchandise I bought before the show. The string broke and it fell off of my wrist. Thankfully, the guy in front of me picked it up for me. When I looked inside the bag the t-shirt was gone. Luckily, I was able to find it on the floor.
Taco was the opening DJ and I couldn’t even see him most of the time because I was moving around so much. But he had a great DJ set. I loved that he had gifs of anime clips playing on the LED wall in front of him.
Vince Staples was the next act and I never listened to any of his music before. He had some good songs, but I was more intrigued with the moving LED panels behind him. I would love to learn how to program and use those. I’m sure if you already know how to use moving lights and how to program LED panels, it would be just be the combination of both. They were so versatile in the shapes they were able to make.
When Tyler finally performed his set was amazing!! It looked like a desert forest. The time of day could be changed with the lighting of the back screen. There were trees and he had a ramp that was decorated to look like a fallen tree. He wore a neon safety vest that made him glow in the dark. The set was breathtakingly beautiful.
Tyler was AMAZING! He was so charismatic and told jokes. He took gifts from the fans and he was like “I love gifts, I never had a father.” That was pretty sad to me, but his music and his shows usually have something that makes people uncomfortable. He is such a handsome man. I thought he was cute before, but I was like DANG! He inspires me so much because he has so many creative outlets and shows that’s it possible to do more than one thing and you don’t have to be bound by anything.
I loved that he performed IFHY, She, and Tamale. Apparently he made tamale because he was trying to challenge himself to make a dance song for all age. The crowd went so crazy that I couldn’t even take out my phone to film because I thought I would drop it.
Of course he performed songs from Scum Fuck Flower Boy, including my favorites See you Again, Boredom, and Who Dat Boy. I actually got to witness a mosh pit up close for Who Dat Boy. I was kind of annoyed because they were taking up space and I didn’t wanna lose my bag again.
Tyler the creator was a great experience and now I feel like I can do anything!
